A few things happened early this afternoon regarding our new guest. Jared came to visit with Derek and after touching him he seemed to wind up getting his abilities back from the contact.

Hank, can you set up a mouth swab for Jared to test his DNA for confirmation? Since his powers seem to be back a blood sample is obviously difficult.

As for Derek, a blood sample or even a mouth swab is completely out of the question as everything he touches now seems to explode.

Precautions are advised.

A brief rundown on the boy down in the Medlab: Derek is a 16 year old who claims to be carrying multiple mutations in his body.

Whether or not this is true is currently unable to be determined, as it has proved nearly impossible to draw a blood sample.

His skin is either unbreakable, or something else is blocking the needle from penetrating the skin. At this moment I'm not sure which is the case.

Kevin Ford has been admitted to the medlab with a pulmonary contusion and fractured ribs after an accident last night. I will be keeping him for observation for a couple of days. Visitors are allowed but please keep chatter brief.

I have filed a intake report in the medlab. Feel free to contact me if there are any questions.

Well, it may be only noon but I can already tell we've got an overnighter on our hands. Our newest student, one Noriko Kikuchi, will be staying in the medlab at least for tonight while Amelia and I are running some tests. Standard in-patient rules apply, guys.

To all medlab volunteers and assistants,

Every weekend this month starting tomorrow afternoon, Dr. Voght and I will be holding an hour long discussion group on the basics of medical ethics, touching on medical responsibility, doctor-patient confidentiality, the patients' bill of rights and other topics. We are making it a requirement of all medlab workers that you attend at least one of these discussion groups. You are all welcome to come to more than one, because we do intend for these to be discussions not lectures, and if there are scheduling issues which prohibit you from attending any of them we ask that you contact one of us to schedule a personal meeting. Additionally, if you have any friends who are thinking about volunteering down here, or any who would be interested in the discussion whether or not they want to volunteer, you are more than free to invite them to join us. There will, of course, be tea, cocoa and cookies.

We know that, for many of you, this may seem to be fairly basic material as you all received some training in medical ethics before you began working down here but we ask that you consider this, not as a review of the basics but a reinforcement of the foundations of medical work. Something happened recently that has caused Amelia and myself to doubt how thorough the training we have been giving has been and so we've decided to start this group. If the discussions go well, we are considering continuing next month and beyond and opening the topics to include other matters of theoretical interest in the medical field.

Finally, if any of you no longer wish to be medical volunteers or consider the requirement of coming to one of these discussions too onerous a task we understand and will remove you from the volunteer rotation effective immediately.

Moira,

the restults on that last combination came out perfectly clean. I think you hit on the perfect proportions. I'm going to run the tests one last time, but we may have something that's ready for the next stage of testing, whenever Nate's up for it.

I almost added "Protests can be lodged with the lake" to the announcement.

Tommy Jones woke up this afternoon while Kylun was down here reading to him. You can all guess how well that sat with the young man.

He's in no shape to be leaving the medlab any time soon, obviously, but he is awake. Which means among other things, that he probably no longer strictly needs a twenty-four hour watch, as he can hit an emergency call button again.

We're going to have to talk about what this means, both as far as scheduling goes and, well, all the rest of it. I'm going to let the staff know, too.

Marie-Ange did a reading on the mission that's out right now and is getting some alarming results. I've started prepping the medlab to handle a larger influx in case her reading is correct. Just letting you all know.

Scott and I (and Alex and Lorna) are taking a short trip to Alaska this weekend for the holiday. I'll be gone from latish on Friday until probably Tuesday. Have gotten all of my shifts covered, so we're good to go. Have a happy fourth, guys.

Nathan has done something rather impressively unfortunate to his own brain and we've got him down here in the medlab. Charles is taking care of him and there's not much the rest of us can do for him, in the meantime. If you want to come down, though, Moira, and check for yourself that he's ok, I'll have coffee ready.

Nathan's had another precognitive fit, once more related to chocolate, and this time we managed to collar him in time to get a blood sample before the fit ended (Honestly, mutants metabolize fast when powers are involved. I also suspect that, given how fast his recovery has been going even know that Amanda has stopped her treatments, that his metabolisim is faster than most (also, stranger. Do we have any evidence that the Askani have altered more than just his brain chemistry?)) and I was able to spot the elevated phenylalanine levels in his blood stream. Given how little chocolate he said he had eaten (which is another point for the altered brain chemistry), I think it's safe to say he needs to be on a no chocolate, at all, ever diet.

Forge had an accident this afternoon. In brief, he wanted to cheer Jay up and thought that teaching himself to ride would be a good way to do this. Unfortunately, his saddle wasn't cinched properly and he fell, shattering both the radius and ulna in his left forearm. His X-rays are showing some anomalous things as well, so I've restrained the arm but haven't cast it yet so I can run some more tests. Even more worryingly, this is the arm his prosthetic is attached to, and with both bones shattered there's no anchor for his hand. Hank, can you look over the x-rays as well, and talk with him about it? I know enough about prosthetics to know I'd be in over my head on this.

I've called Forge's father and he has made plans to come up to the school as soon as he can, and I'll be letting the school at large know in just a moment.
