In light of the stress of the last few weeks, especially most recent incidents, time off is being worked out. Jean's up first, given the work she put in with Lorna yesterday, and then Moira. Hank gets quality baby time after that and I'll take my chances with Christmas. *wry*

Also, we're slowly switching our patient roster around as people recover/etc:

Haroun should be moving back to his own room in the next day or two.

Forge was released last night by Moira.

Marius is being moved to somewhere less isolated, given he's stabilised and is apparently no longer a threat, although I will remind everyone who carries the X-gene to watch his hands since he doesn't seem to have control over those little mouths of his and I don't want anyone accidentally getting bitten.

Tommy is staying put, given he's still bedridden. We'll continue to need people to fetch and carry for him and Haroun.

Lorna has been moved to her room as familiar surroundings are considered to be more calming for her. Charles is observing her.

Remy is still healing at that scary accelerated rate. I removed the sutures from his surgical wound yesterday, and the fluids we've been pumping into him seem to be doing the job. Which reminds me, we need to ask the hospital for more blood in his type. He's drifting in and out of consciousness - he should wake up in the next day or two. Clarice, Rahne, you two are still priority sitters for him, given you have more specialised training.

New rosters are on the board by the toaster oven, including the helpers. Who, I might add, we'd be lost without, especially given recent events. Jennie and Jamie are also helping out with meals, baths, etc.

Amanda Sefton's medlab access and access to this community have been revoked. She will not be allowed to set foot in medlab unless she herself is sick or injured and then she should be referred immediately to one of the doctors. If you see her around medlab at all, please tell one of us or Kuk without delay.

Haroun was awake for a few minutes tonight, while Alison was sitting with him. According to her he was lucid and coherent, which is a great relief given the fever-induced siezures he was having. He might be in and out a bit more over the next few days - just a warning, Jean, in case the pinging of the machines gives you minor heart failure like they did me tonight when they went off. Took me a minute to realise they were just informing me of a change in consciousness.

Now we just need Tommy to come out of the coma and it'll be a real party down here. I much prefer awake patients, even if they're on the cranky side.

Hmm

I was just checking Haroun's EEG for yesterday, and there's a few spikes I really don't like. Can the doctors three spare a moment to give me a second opinion? Given what happened with Betsy yesterday, I want to make sure he's not about to go into grand mal seizures again.
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
Haroun - we started him on the immunosuppressants yesterday, and will be alternating them with the immunoboosters every few days. His nervous system is still pretty frayed from the combined effects of the electrical shock to his spine and the high fevers, so we're continuing with the anti-convulsants. Hopefully they'll keep the fits to a minimum. He's already showing signs of bruising where the IVs are lodged, so we're going to have to be even more cautious about infection from our side as well as his. Quiet-ish night - some palpitations and I had to re-seat some of the waste tubes after his last bout of tremors, but nothing serious. Well, on the scale of things.

Doug and Kitty are back and immersed in the server room. I'm walking past on my way offshift to make sure they aren't killing themselves with work. Which reminds me... Hank? Hon? You are coming back upstairs this morning and getting some sleep in a real bed. Don't make me use the tazer.

Tommy - still unconscious, but stable overwise. We've set the breaks and dealt with the compund fracture to his shin, and the bruising is starting to go down. There's no guarantee he will wake up - the skull fracture's serious enough that there could be brain damage - but we'll cross that bridge if we get to it. The medlab helpers are doing an wonderful job - don't worry about your classes, we've arranged for all the students down here at the moment to have a suspension of classes until thing settle down. I know some of you are already ahead of things, but it's definitely one less thing for you (and us!) to worry about. Thank you all so much.

Jean, given Haroun's stabilising, ease things off to eight hourly shifts? We'll need to watch him with the drug regime, but I think we can stretch things a bit more now.

Speaking of which, bed for me. Pay no attention to the PhD being dragged along by his chest fur.

So, considering our mystery benefactor's call yesterday, it looks like we've got a way to attack this thing. Provided the info checks out, of course. I formally call brainstorming session.
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
OOC Note: This post occurs before this phone call.

Jean or Hank, can you pass this onto the team list since I don't have access? Thanks.

So, almost eighteen hours later and we have achieved... a holding pattern. The heat resistant gel seems to be doing it's intended task of maintaining Haroun's temperature at a steady level, without the dangerous spokes we we seeing earlier. His vitals are weak, but also steady, and the physical, non-cybernetic injuries have been treated. We removed the jetpack last night, since that was impeding our ability to treat him, but the rest of the cybernetics remain in place - the kind of surgery required to address that is impossible until the spore's purged form his sytem. He's too weak and the shock would kill him.

On that note... Not a lot of progress there yet. Moira's last batch of vaccine/spore-be-gone seems to be doing something, but it's not killing the spore, just slowing down its reproductive rate. We've established that it cannot survive longer than an hour outside a host body, and it's aerosol in spread - it mixes with the moisture produced by the body and becomes airborne once it leaves the pores. So, sweat, respiration, saliva and excretions. The gel tank is actually helping in that regard, binding the stuff in a non-friendly environment, but again, it's still in his system and we need to get it out.

Helpers, thanks for the assistance last night. I've drawn up a roster of Tommy-watching for you, let me know if there's any problems with that. Hank will continue to supervise in between spore research. Jean and I are splitting watching Haroun over the next twenty-four hours, and we'll reassess after that.

Now I have a couch in my office calling me. Come get me if anything happens. I mean it.

Emergency!

Follows an all-doctors page to attend at the medlab.

We've got a situation, people. Team's on its way back from a job, and Haroun's been seriously injured. Initial stats are not looking good. Plus, as an added bonus, we've got some sort of deadly infection to deal with, possibly a biological weapon. All information is up on the medlab files, and I'm prepping the isolation lab as we speak. Emergency biohazard protocols to be implemented on landing.

Jean, there's a hazmat suit prepped and waiting for you - we'll need your TK to isolate Haroun from hanger to lab. Moira, Hank, we'll need you out in the lab proper - you've got the expertise with genetics and biochemistry, and there's no way either of you are coming close to a probable fatal contagion.

Forge, Paige, we'll need you both working on this one - apparently Haroun's suffered some extensive damage to the cybernetics. Details unclear as yet, but you'll be updated as soon as we are.

Clarice, Rahne and Amanda, you'll be assisting Hank and Moira. Students will not be entering the iso lab under any circumstances. Considering we still have another critical patient, there will be plenty for you to do.

Batten down the hatches and put on the industrial pot of coffee - it's going to be a long night.
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
So, there's been a few upheavals lately, and as Moira's last post here attests to, a need for some changes. Namely, shifts, and maybe taking on some of the RedX kids on a bit more regular basis as helpers. I know Hank and Moira are intent on continuing to work as close to full time as possible, but let's face it, babies need a lot of time, and there's four of us now. No reason why we can't arrange to have actual lives in between shifts, particularly if we cut out the nights when there's no-one needing supervision.

(PS: What on earth possessed me to buy this shirt?)
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
Since the medlab needs it, and things are relatively quiet at the moment, and Jean and I agree, it's time to declare Friday our annual "Clean Up Medlab From Top To Bottom" Day. All helpers and staff to report bright and early - Moira, you get to be supervisor. There's a hat and a badge and everything. *grins* If we all pitch in, we'll get it done in plenty of time for the traditional pizza and soda session by the pool in the afternoon.
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
I've got Haroun down here being treated for flashburns to the face and eyes. Luckily it's not too severe, and he should be fine tomorrow, but it could have been a lot worse. I don't know what happened to give Alison's files Psych flags, but this would be why it's a good idea not to spar with someone who hasn't been cleared for same. *grumbles*
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
So, Docs 1 and 3 back on deck (although with the original Doc 1 back, we really ought to renumber ourselves... *g*), and just wanting to know what we've got. A check of the files shows Paige is still with us, but making great leaps forward, yes? And Amanda's back in - Moira, does your note here say she should stay one more night? Looks like you wrote this in a hurry.

Hank's on nightshift tonight, since it looks like I'll have an errand to run for Charles in the city tomorrow, but my turn next time.
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
So, I'll be doing Jean's shifts this weekend as she's being whisked away by our resident pool demon and I should know better than to place bets when I'm playing him. However, I'll be staging my own escape from the 26th to the 1st July, since I need to go up to Alaska on a fact-confirming mission. It all works out - roster adjustments are being made.

Nathan's tucked up in his own suite, so our only patients are our longer-term ones, Paige and Jono. Progress is being made, but as we all know, sometimes genius takes time. Hopefully there will be word on when Paige comes out of isolation soon.

Just a heads-up for the medlab crew re the situation with Paige.

For now - and until Jean and/or Charles say otherwise - Paige will be in isolation. She's in a fairly delicate mental and emotional state aside from her physical condition, and it's for her benefit that it's the case, not because we're being evil overlords. She herself has requested that she not see anyone for now, and we're respecting that wish. To that end, the only people allowed to see her are Jean and the Professor. Yes, that includes Hank, Moira (should she be back while Paige is still in iso) and myself. I'm keeping an eye on things while Jean gets some rest, but only insofar as can be done from out here.

I know you're all worried about her - so am I - but I think we need to remember that we're doing this for Paige's benefit, not to punish or be unreasonable to anyone else. So your patience is appreciated, and as soon as things change, we'll let you know.

For quick reference.

Nate - two broken vertebrae in the thoracic area (so, the trickiest of the three regions to have broken vertebrae in), burns from a pyrokinetic on one shoulder, extremely deep claw marks down one arm, a couple of cracked ribs, various more minor cuts, a bump on the head (but no concussion), and he's basically one large bruise. Plus minor psionic shock - no sprained brain, though.

Anika - multiple burns, contusions, internal injuries, and broken bones. Enough that it would have been fatal without her healing factor, but it's bad enough that it'll take her a few days to heal.

Sam: Broken arm, cracked ribs, a whole lot of bruising, and a concussion. Power overload.

Hank: general scrapes and bruises and a punctured calf from a long curved knife going through his leg.

Haroun: Bruises and scrapes, strained elbow tendon. Dehydration.

Alison: Light bruising, exhaustion.

Kurt: Cuts and bruises from falling concrete, exhaustion.

Scott - dislocated knee, a number of minor cuts, and some rather spectacular bruises.

Lorna - a broken shin and a dislocated shoulder along with a host of cuts and bruises. She's looking pretty green all over, even her skin is edging in that direction. She's pretty much spent powers-wise and hypersensitive to EM fields right now and will be floating rather than walking until we give her really good drugs.

***

Moira and Jean are dealing with Anika and Nate now, and Hank's with Sam. Someone might want to get him off his feet asap given the puncture wound he's got, though.

Clarice, Rahne, can you help out with the cuts and bruises, make sure everyone who's ambulatory gets out of here and up to bed to rest asap, along with food and drink? Call in help from the trainees and older students if you need. Scott and Loran we'll park in spare beds until we've got breathing room. Once Amanda's done healing Nate, someone make sure she rests before doing anything else. I'll be the wandering medic, any questions, come to me.

We know what to do, people, let's get to it.

Note: Direct download from the PDA? So my new best friend.

Hey team. :)

First of all, thank you to everyone for the steller work you did yesterday, helping me keep sane and deal with the workload. And welcome back to Moira, who I'm sure we're all glad to see.

So, now the business part...

Shifts. Since we're down to two doctors, and we're both going to be working pretty hard on things, Moira and I have gone over the schedules and cut back the actual overnight shifts, as long as the medlab is free of actual patients. That may change, in which case we're back to actual warm bodies in the observation room, but for now, there's two eight-hour shifts. Moira's covering the morning, I'm taking the afternoon, and we'll be calling on the helpers in rotation, since there's three of you and two of us.

That of course is the official coverage - as you can understand, Moira and I will be pulling a lot of research time trying to find out what's wrong with Hank, but we will be taking it responsibly: no repeats of my recent stunt, I promise. We expect the same of you guys - anyone overdoing it and getting silly with the not-sleeping (and overindulging in Red Bull consumption) will find themselves on the wrong end of a sedative. And that applies to me as well - if I end up in the state I was in the other night, Moira has full permission to tranq me as much as she likes.

Forge and Paige will continue working on Haroun's issues with the cyberware, freeing Moira and I up to work on Hank. As yet we still don't know what's causing his condition, but it is noticeably getting worse. If it continues at the rate it's going, he's going to need a lot of help getting around and such by next week. I will be still working on Haroun's rehab, since his back still needs work, and Moira's arranged a roster for the same with Cain, which the helpers and those Red X trained people can deal with, under Moira's supervision.

We've also got people keeping an eye on us, our food consumption, and our sleeping. There's no excuses for neglecting any of it, for any of us.

Um, that's all I can think of for now. It's going to be a crap couple of weeks, but if we continue with the team work as we've started, we'll get through it. All of us.

And yes, I'm going to bed now - beeper numbers are posted.
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
Jay just brought Amanda in, unconscious. I'm not entirely sure what the situation is, but it's obviously a magic overload - we've seen her do it often by now to know what it looks like. I've got her tucked into one of the beds, and she should be fine with rest and food, plus an aspirin the size of a truck, although I'll run the usual brain scans to make sure she hasn't caused herself any damage. Jay wouldn't tell me if the spell she was doing was for him, but given the chances of him just stumbling across her at this time of night, I'd say it probably was. I'll ask Amanda when she wakes up.

Someone needs to have a talk with that boy.
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
Hank? Can I get you to come down here and give me a hand? It seems Jay and Kyle decided beating the crap out of each other was an appropriate form of dialogue. I need someone to sit on Mr "I Have A Healing Factor" while one of the girls goes and raids the kitchen for fuel, since I'm busy with Kyle at the moment. Nothing serious, and his healing factor will deal with the injuries, but he needs calming down.

Hmm.

Jan. 18th, 2005 10:35 pm
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
Hank, do we have any blood samples from Logan or Sarah in the stores? I was looking at some of Kyle's bloodwork before and after the incident at the mall, and there's some oddness in his serotonin levels I think is related to his healing factor. I have a theory I want to test...
[identity profile] x-madelyn.livejournal.com
So we're all on the same page...

1) Medlab helpers. You're off the hook for the holidays. With our patient load down to just Cain and Jono, you're free to go home etc for as long as you need the time off. Considering the stress we've all been under lately, that's anticipated to be at least a few days. If you've volunteered for Cain duty, that's fine - the number of volunteers means we've got lots of room to play with on the schedule.

2) Moira. Is getting both Christmas and New Year's to spend with her finacee at Muir Island. No arguments, woman, the roster's already written, in ink even, so you can't be sneaky and change it when we're not looking. ;) She's leaving the 23rd, I believe, and will be back I think a few days after the 1st. No rush, though.

3) Hank. Gets New Year's off. I believe skiing was mentioned. And snow bunnies. *snickers* He's leaving on the 28th, after I get back, so we're covered. Back on the 5th.

4) Madelyn. Which would be me. I'm off for Christmas, leaving the 23rd and back on the afternoon of the 28th. I'll be on for New Year's, and then I'm taking a couple of days (the 6th-8th January) to go to San Francisco with Jubilee.

In case of emergency, our beeper numbers are all in the usual places, and Charles has a locum or two he can secure at short notice should something really catastrophic occur...
