I just popped back to grab some stuff and saw Amanda. I know she's trying to quit cold turkey and all, but this is a little...excessive. I mean, she's showing some majorly worrisome symptoms and whatnot.

anything we or I can do? 'cause yeah, this looks really bad.

Thank you for letting us know, Clarice. We need to discuss our options and what would be best for Amanda before I can tell you anything for certain, but we will do everything in our power to help her.

Withdrawal is a horrible thing to go through and, sometimes, even harder to take care of its symptoms. But we are having a big pow-wow and seeing what we can do.

In the mean time, distracting her might work, to keep her mind off of things.

Somehow, given her latest post, I'm not sure distraction will be enough. Unfortunately, we've already illiminated most of the options. Amanda is adamant, and I agree, that psionically helping her to control her cravings would be a bad choice, but I do wish she would let us do something to at least lessen the symptoms.

I'm heading up there in just a second with some medicine. I'm at my wits end because while this is an addicition, it's so unusual that...*sigh* I'm hoping this will help, at least for tonight.

I'm guessing the 'paths aren't intervening for the same reason we just don't dope her for the duration? Addictive personality and dependence is always tricky - you stand the chance of just exchanging one substance for another. We'll do what we can, and what she'll let us. Considering the last couple of times she's been through this, I think the fact she's telling us is a slight improvement - no hiding in the barn drinking herself sick, at least.

Heading up there as soon as I find...aha, there's the towel. *nods* You're right, that's a big reason. On top of that, Amanda just doesn't, well, dope up well. It's been a while since it's been this bad and it's hitting her pretty hard.

And yes, this is a big improvement over the last time. She's grown a lot since then, thankfully. I don't know how well she would have been able to handle it being this bad last time.

As Moira said, that's a big part of it. And, with psionics, there's the added hesitation where she has said, quite decisively, that she will not allow us to use our powers to lessen the cravings. Ethically, ignoring that would be much more invasive than any other solution we might come up with.

The other hell of it all is that going cold turkey on any other sort of addiction involves a necessary purging of the system. But this addiction is directly related to her mutant power. I'm not convinced that actually fully purging the magical energy out of Amanda's body might not be even more harmful to her than simply the withdrawl.

I certainly wouldn't agree to ignoring what she wants. Unless of course, what she wants is detrimental to her health. And she won't let us use any of those magical doohickeys in Moira's office to tide her over either. Stubborn brat. *wry grin* We'll just have to keep a close eye on her, make sure she isn't damaging herself. Insofar as much as we're able.

Can I just repeat my opinion that life was much less complicated before all this magic stuff?
